Weather forecasters are predicting a cloudy but fairly mild day today with a high of 42. Warmer at least from recent times. The Weather Channel is forecasting similar temperatures tomorrow and. Friday with a chance of snow by the end of the week.
The Reverend Jesse Jackson was no stranger to New England, especially during his attempted presidential runs back in the 1980s. And this humble reporter remembered two of his visits to New Hampshire. One was at the University of New Hampshire in Durham when the well spoken, sincere and driven civil rights activist lead students down Main Street from the campus after speaking there. The other was in downtown Portsmouth.
New England’s colder winter weather this year has kept heating oil and gas delivery busy. And they have been restricted in the past in their number of hours worked. But this year, the state of New Hampshire is invoking an emergency order allowing them longer hours. It will last through February 28. The state says it will prevent service disruptions, and address shortage of drivers.
The unwelcome mat is out in the city of Lewiston Maine. There, the police department will not work on immigration detainments with ICE agents. Lewiston city Council has voted. an ordinance prohibiting federal agents from working with the locals. The newly passed ordinance prohibits municipal employees rom working with the federal agents. it takes affect immediately in the central Maine city.
While police investigate the latest shooting in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the earlier one at Brown University in Providence involved the shooter killing a scientist in Brookline mass. MIT professor Nuño Luerrero walked into the Home’s foyer after his daughter spotted a man holding a package. From there, Claudio Nevez Valente greeted him with bullets in three places in his body. Dr. Luerrero was taken to the hospital, but pronounced dead.
Nine skiers are still missing in snow and icy conditions after an avalanche in Lake Tahoe. Nevada Six more have been rescued near the dangerous Donner summit. At the time they were heading for a trailhead There the rescuers themselves battling fierce winter conditions were alerted by emergency beacons carried by the group. Some 30 inches of snow have fallen shutting down highways in the area.
