Congratulations Kareem Dieng, a former resident of Milford, New Hampshire now living in Maine, will be honored with the Nicole Mokeme Place Award at this year’s Maine Black Excellence Awards, hosted by Third Place Inc.
Now in its fifth year, the Maine Black Excellence Awards celebrate the talent, dedication, and impact of Black leaders who strengthen Maine’s cultural, civic, and economic fabric.
Kareem is being recognized as a visionary leader expanding access to outdoor spaces for communities of color, a field where Black leadership remains rare. In a society where the outdoors is often framed as exclusive or unsafe for Black and Brown people, Kareem’s work reclaims space for joy, exploration, and connection to the land.
