Breaking: NEWS RELEASETAKE ACTION AS ANOTHER WINTER STORM EXPECTED IN NHCONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) urges New Hampshire residents and visitors to prepare for more winter weather that is expected to hit the area Saturday night into early Monday.The National Weather Service (NWS) in Gray, Maine, has issued Winter Storm Warnings for parts of the state.
• Northern Carroll and Northern Grafton counties are expected to receive between 6 and 9 inches of snow, half an inch of sleet and a light glaze of ice accumulation from 7 p.m. Saturday through 1 a.m. Monday.
• Belknap, Southern Carroll, Cheshire, Southern Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Interior Rockingham, Strafford and Sullivan counties are expected to receive between 6 and 9 inches of snow, 1½ inches of sleet and ice accumulation around two-tenths of an inch from 7 p.m. Saturday through 1 a.m. Monday.“I urge Granite Staters to take the necessary steps to stay safe and warm as this winter weather approaches,” said Governor Kelly Ayotte. “Please heed guidance from local emergency response personnel and pay attention to weather reports. Thank you to the first responders, road crews, and emergency management personnel working around-the-clock to keep our state safe this winter.”The storm is the third winter storm to impact the Granite State within a week.“As this storm approaches, take action to ensure that your family is safe,” said HSEM Director Robert Buxton. “Listen to local weather reports to stay informed and be sure to keep your driveway and fire hydrants clear to allow access. Avoid traveling if you can. If you must travel, make sure you have updated your vehicle’s emergency kit.”Director Buxton provides these additional reminders:
• Visit ReadyNH.gov to learn more preparedness tips to help you and your family stay safe.
• Monitor National Weather Service radio or broadcast weather reports to keep track of changing conditions.
• Plan two ways out of your home in case of emergency.
• Clear the driveway and front walk from ice and snow. This will provide easy access to your home.
• Remove snow from around any exhaust vents outside your home.
• Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.
• Never crowd the plow.
• Clear all snow and ice off your car, including your roof before traveling.
• Bridges, overpasses, and exposed road areas are the most prone to slippery conditions.
