New Hampshire US Senator Maggie Hassan, as is her style, put President Trump‘s nominee for Homeland Security Secretary under direct scrutiny at his confirmation hearing. He would, if confirmed replace Kristie Noem in that role. She resigned in the wake of sweeping immigration ICE actions.

She asked him if he would work With communities in New Hampshire before committing to opening new detention centers

“I will work with the local community, and I’ll work with you in your office,” Markwayne Mullin said. “I won’t be able to speak to that until I understand the risk and the reason behind delivering the mission that’s set in front of us. We’ve got to protect the homeland, and we’re going to do that. But obviously, we want to work with community leaders.”

Chairman Rand Paul opened the hearing by demanding an apology from Mullin for calling him a freaking snake for attempting to block a Department of Homeland Security Funding Bill. Mullen declined.
