Update: Two murder suspects from Texas captured in York Maine.

From a York Police Department Press Release:

On May 19th, 2025, York Police officers were made aware of two murder suspects from Texas that may be in the York area. The York Police, Wells Police and US Marshalls were searching for potential areas that the suspects may be in both communities.

On May 20th, 2025, York Patrol Sergeant Bryan Cantara and Officer Crosby were enroute to a call when they observed a male and female matching the last known description of the suspects walking west on York Street. Patrol officers then made a stop of the suspects and positively identified athem as the murder suspects from Texas. The suspects were cooperative with officers and detained. The Gun believed to have been involved in the murder was recovered on scene and taken as evidence.

US Marshalls and Wells PD assisted on the scene with securing the suspects and evidence related to the crime of murder in Texas. The warrants were confirmed with Texas for Murder, Arson and Abuse of a Corpse and the suspects were placed into custody. Both suspects were transported to the York Police Station for processing and evidence collection before being transported to the York County Jail in Alfred as Fugitives from Justice.

The Suspects are:

Avery E Stemmons- Black male – 22 years old

Killeen, Texas  

Karina Gonzalez Barreto- Hispanic female – 21 years old

Killeen, Texas
