Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Chair of the Emerging Threats and Spending Oversight Subcommittee, led a bipartisan hearing examining how advanced technologies —such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and bioengineering — may pose risks to national security. At the hearing, Senator Hassan highlighted the need for stronger AI safeguards, given recent incidents where researchers have shown that bad actors could evade current AI safeguards and jailbreak AI systems to get them to provide information on how to produce bioweapons and other dangerous materials.
